Flora and fauna
Surrounded by mountains and the Mediterranean, Tuscany has surprisingly diverse nature. In addition to the formed culture landscapes, Tuscany is characterised by dense forests, moors and Mediterranean Macchia. In an area as large as Switzerland, the vegetation alternates between vineyards and cornfields, impenetrable forests and impressive mountains. As well as the famous cypresses, pine, oak and chestnut trees accentuate the landscape.
The typical Mediterranean bush landscape's lush vegetation covers vast areas of land today. Broom, citrus, moorland, strawberries, oleander, thyme and rosemary are only some of the plants that define the image of the Macchia. The aromas and nuances of colour charms plant lovers time and time again.
Pheasants, snakes, bats, red deer, wild boar and wolves can all be found in Tuscany. The wild moorland of the Maremma is especially interesting thanks to its wild cows and horses, cranes and countless species of bird. Tuscany is also a great place to go bird watching. A wide range of beautiful birds can be spotted throughout the region. Birdwatching enthusiasts should head to the mountains and marshlands to see birds such as the tawny owl, herons, ring ouzel and the rare glossy ibis.

Flora y fauna
